That reminds me of an incident... when I lived in Colorado, working on a dude ranch, a white lady who was into Native American medicine, showed me the book of the ailings and the cures. She pointed out "deaf" and showed me that the cause for deaf was anger. I was like, huh, I was born angry, huh? The cure for it was that I had to wear the skull of rattlesnake on my head for a week, believing that it could absorb anger from me and then I'd become hearing. Whoa, interesting. Well, she was quite an interesting lady, owning a small store in Steamboat Springs, selling quartz, stones, feathers, herbs, etc.

I remember a friend narrating to me as a kid he was taken to several religious revivals by his mom, in hopes he will become hearing. He humored her, however he didn't become hearing ;)

Believe it or not, I went to one of those "miracle crusades" in downtown LA with a hearing high school girl from an East LA high school who tried to convince me that I would become hearing there. I went to humor her, and after we left, she said, oh my, maybe you didn't believe in it and that's why it didn't happen for you. I told her that it was a farce. She didn't talk to me anymore after that. Whatever!

Yes, when i was growing up, the big fad among deaf children was accupucture. I would see deaf childrens faces and ears marked with X and that they would go for accupuncture treatments after school. Even some of them went to China for pure accupuncture. Im glad my parents didnt take that route (i guess they didnt have enough money or didnt believe in it).

yes there are still some people in this day and age that still ignorant about deaf people. I went to my son's girlfriend's graduation party and met her parents and relatives for the first time. Her grandmother was so apologetic..kept saying I'm so sorry you're deaf. I told her that there's no reason to be sorry. I'm happy with who I am!

And the airplane remind me of my mom's story..her father was upset that she was deaf so he took her on one of those plane rides!!!

I think today is a great improvement than long ago. WE still have a long way to go!

I remember back in early 1970s when I was at the middle-school age and lived at the dormitory, there was a newspaper article about a deaf person in Europe (Germany?) who one day sneezed and suddenly became hearing and the doctors were baffled. So everyone would try to sneeze to see if we could become hearing. I wonder if anyone can find that article???

Good humor! :-)

In 1985, after church service, a hearing guy approached me, asked me if I'm deaf. I reply, "Yes, I'm deaf." The guy felt sorry for me being deaf, look so sad at me. He asked me if I don't mind having him hold my ears to heal my deaf. I reply, "I didn't want any part of that." He kept begging he would "heal" my ears. I reply back, "fine, go ahead." with disgusting remark. After he finish, asked me if I could hear it yet. I smile at him reply, "sorry, I am still DEAF! I'm proud of it." He pout and walked out. LOL.

I'm grateful to be deaf.. :-)

You just made the perfect comments on that show "Through Deaf Eyes". It did show lot of history how we had deaf school, oral school, Speaking, ASL, etc.. I completly agree with you that it has showed little too much on oral than ASL. Two favorite parts I liked the most was "Can you read my lips?" and "Knowledge is more powerful than ear and mouth. Keep up the great vlogs in the future. Yours and Jay Krieger were the best vlogs that inspired me to set up my new blog. Pretty soon will send my first two vlogs coming up.
Many thanks from Texas
