Hi friends!
Welcome to my ASL Vlog! ASL (American Sign Language) is the most beautiful language in the world!
Always Be Cool.................................................................
A day when deaf people and their language are completely accepted -- no, more than that, truly welcomed -- as a part of the family of man, in which God created diversity not to oppress the minority who are different, but to enrich the lives of all.

My son used to sign, "dish sick."
What?? You sick?
"No!! Dish sick!"
Huh??
I asked him to show me after failed attempts to understand him.
"But I don't want to!! Dish sick!!!"
I said sorry, but you gotta show me!
Frustrated, he got off the couch and walked me to the kitchen and pointed at the sink, wanting me to put his dish in the sink.
Oh...SINK! Not sick!!
sigh. ;)
One little correction here, smiles :-)
KODA is for kids under 18 years old
CODA is adults over 18 years old.
I dont know how old your kids are so wanted to share the difference between those two wordings in case anyone wants to know.
Anyway, I remember my son signing
"pumpkin" on his hand over and over many times, I could not figure him out, I kept asking,"what are you talking about pumpkin???" Finally after many attempts, I got it, he was trying to sign puppy. Duh!!
I would love to hear more stories about this! Thanks John for bringing it up!

Hilarous! I can't stop laughing about the phrase your son said, "Ball is in the fan." It's my new favorite comical phrase.
I have NEVER heard the term "Koda" in my life.
But the above story reminded me of my own child when he came back from being out with his dad, I asked him where they had been. He kept giving me the sign for "Flower". Over and over again, so I finally asked my husband and he replied, "Oh we were over at Fowler's house".
I think we all have some cute stories of our hearing kids trying to make their deaf parents understand!
These are precious stories! Thanks for sharing them, smile.
Cute!
We live in South Dakota and recently visited Rapid City last summer. Now she signs like this: "Rabbit City".
She got a Cinderella doll and said she wanted to dress like a present. I thought at first that since Cinderella was all dressed up fancy that she looked like a present until I realized she meant princess.
My son signs "gold" like this: "goat". When he wants goldfish crackers, he says "goat"fish crackers.
They also go through "signing phases" where they would start using a made up sign instead of the right one. For example, my daughter lately signs Santa like peach but on top of head show his hat. She has a Santa doll so she will tell me she wants that. She knows right sign for Santa but she just wants to sign it different.
What ABC stand for?
UH OH, LOOK WHAT THE CAT BROUGHT US!! Haha, I have two very young sons now and from your stories I am already dreading what will happen in future, hahaha.

Nancy has sent you a link to a blog:
My son came from school and excited to tell me that he played with a blind girl. Figure it out that he means blonde. LOL Taught him right sign. KODA is really COOL.
Msg for Jon: http://my.videoegg.com/video/dKOQpL
Cute stories! I didn't realize we did that.
Haha. :-) I love that stories.
My daughter was a kid, was always sign, "flower" meant for "flour" in pronounce, after sign she spelled f-l-o-u-r. Same for other one, sign for "garbage" meant for "save". I think she does that sometimes. :-) Now she's grown lady.
I have 2 kids and yes, I have seen them talking like that. My son often signs "cough" for coach! It's so cute and funny to watch them sign like that even it's so fun to figure out what they talk about! I thought that I was only one that had kids like that but to my relief you had the same situation..I am glad that you brought up that issue and other people made comments.

Hi all.. I know this is RE: Coda or Kodas BUT.. the story is too cute not to tell. I myself am an O.H.C.O.D.A. I have 3 siblings who are 3rd generation deaf and BOTH my parents are deaf. With that said.. my 5 children are immersed in the deaf world as only myself and my husband are hearing (we both sign). My now 9 year old daughter at the time was about 3 or 4 years old and I remeber her being so BORED.. I gave her several suggestions on what to do and she VOICED to me.. "No mom really thats just POKE".. I instantly was puzzled n thought POKE?? WHAT IN THE WORLD?!. I repeatedly asked her using my voice what do you mean its poke?? Finally she got so mad she SIGNED "YOU KNOW LIKE GRANDMA N GRANDPA SAY.. ITS "BORING". At the same time she voiced POKE. LOL Apparently we all had mouthed POKE while signing Boring!!!! I hope you all get as much laughter out of this story as my family did!
Coda myself....LOVE all the stories. Have to ask my parents what I did when I was a kid!!
I m hooked too on ABC!!!
Koda...new to me...I like it!
