LOL. Yes, same as you! Flat ear and bra user. Very humilating experience with this misguided identity. Speaking... "Hotdog, baseball, cowboy.." ;)

LOL!!

Hearing aid bras!! Hilarious!!

Should have said that instead of when I started my training bra phase! ;)

Tsk..I should sue them for molesting me at such an early age!! ;)

I had them, too... I was mad that they wouldn't let me take it off for recess! What's up with that??

I hated it when it would hit my chin whenever I ran.

*shakes head*

Thanks, ABC!

Wow you and I must be around same age as I entered school around 1966. I remember those ugly and uncomfortable earphones! They always made my ears hot and I was always happy when the teacher told us to take it off! And then I would seem to get bloody ears from ball hitting on my hearing aids or whatever. My kids don't have bloody ears so that struck me as something unusual, I wonder if my hearing aids were causing the problem or not. Good thing, deaf kids have it better these days than our generation. Here there is a traveling museum about deaf culture and they had those old hearing aids on display. It made me wonder if my parents still have them or threw them out, I would have to ask them. More stories please, John!!

Lol,

Can the old people with big ears fly just like Dumbo?

Geez!

I must admit that the modern-age kids are very lucky. I'm jealous. The equipments are much, much lighter and comfortable. The modern hearing aids and CIs are much better. I dunno about the speech therapy in this modern world. However, I know that the insurance would cover these kids with speech problems until they reach about 8 years old.

I know that some of the private schools provide either the speech therapy or classes all the way up to 8th grade or longer.

In my 1970's went into hell. I was required doing neither gesture nor sign at the catholic-oral school. If either nun or teacher caught me for doing some gestures, they will put their initial names and the $$$ on my green card. Then every Fridays, The students and I have to pay for the $$$ weekly. The $$$ proceed for the nuns and teachers to get some coffee and douuts in the coffee room. Sucks, isn't it? Rats!

Hi John.

I was sitting here watching your vlog and my hearing husband was sitting nearby on his laptop. All of the sudden he leans over to see what I'm watching. I wondered why. He said there was sound coming from you vlog. I said, "What sound?" He said, "It sounds like a TV is on."

I thought you might want to know that whoever it was that walked behind you while you were taping this vlog turned on the TV and it picked up the sound in the background.

I wouldn't have known if it hadn't caught my hearing husband's attention.

I think we deaf folks need to double check about background sounds. I'd hate to be filing and have my 5th grade son and his hearing friends have one of their burping contests in the background.
(wink) ;)

Good vlog! I always enjoy watching you!

Methinks you're kidding about the older students being afflicted with protuding ears due to wearing heavier hearing aids?? LOL

I have several pictures of myself as a child wearing such headset and FM device! I remembered them breaking all the time during recess because we played so rough they always fell out of the pouches and shattered. Why they insisted us wear them during recess is beyond me....must have been expensive for the school to keep replacing them!

Hi...i went thru the same thing from 1982 to 1988...with the phonic ear....i hated it!!

sorry about your dog...

Thank you for your sharing in retrospective of hearing aids.

Your vlog is extremely hilarious! It brought me back to remember how we used hearing aids with various sounds and speech.

Several times, I wore it and bite wire. It tickled my tongue which is almost similar to one penny.

I enjoyed your stories to share. Keep vlogging!

Oh I didn't know that your dog passed away, I am so sorry to hear about it. Our beloved family dog had to be put to sleep a few months ago. Its a sad moment for all of us but she was suffering too much. These days sometimes I see the spiritual ghost of her in a few seconds and then it all disappears.

Yeah, brings back old memories! Don't miss them, ha.

Reminds me of a story...I used to substitute teach a lot at a elementary school. This time it was with a group of 7 and 8 year olds. Active and energetic!

They made sure I followed through every part of their routine. If I missed anything, they reminded me. It was really important to them that they have their routine that they feel familiar and comfortable with.

Anyway, at the end of the day and I was driving home and thinking about the day. Suddenly I realized they did not remind me of only one thing. They were supposed to put their hearing aids on when they arrived into class. They did not even say one thing about it! I forgot about it too.

I know that is part of their morning routine because I come to visit the classroom to help out and observe. Mmmm..interesting.

LOL! Hilarious!! :-) Bring back to my memories of Hearing Aids "bra" (or girdle) and speech in my childhood years. Era of '65's and 1975's.

I wore a first hearing aids "bra" since I was an infant until 8 years old. I remember when my "bra" was misplaced and had to fix a fitting right. Ugghh! A mold fitting in my ears really hurt. Ouch! :-) Every time, hearies approached me and close up listen my ears, "I heard your hearing aids sounds Bzzzz and fix them".

Speaking of speech, I remember I was practicing by feeling someone's neck and used a kleenex made it perfect after "thousand" times. :-/

Very true! We deafies have that kind of ears floppy back in '70's. How sad.

By the way, I'm so sorry about your dog, Indy has passed away. He was a lovely dog. I sure miss my old dog long time ago. :-(

LOL ! True. It is similar to my experience in France. I practice correct pronunciation for the letter of "R" using water gargle. I wonder if you have similar experience using water gargle for practicing pronunciation here in the USA.

I want to share my weird experience how to pronounce one English word of "Hi" correctly when I moved to USA from France. My hearing sister helped me to pronounce one word of “Hi” again and again until my sister pinched my arm so I reacted painfully and shouted "aie". She told me that I finally pronounce "hi" correctly. Strangely, the French word of “aie” means ouch. When greeting people, I said “hi” in funny way using my imagination to express my pain. At the last moment I reacted painfully and shouted “hi” when my doctor gave me a shot.
