A day when deaf people and their language are completely accepted -- no, more than that, truly welcomed -- as a part of the family of man, in which God created diversity not to oppress the minority who are different, but to enrich the lives of all.

Hey wow really far out .. ok i will do that !!!!!!! Thanks man
This is a funny issue, but it's a good deaf issue with a good suggestion. It should have been posted on the DeafRead page, not in DeafRead EXTRA. You'll get my vote. Hopefully we can bump it over where it belongs. ;)

Great idea... Best one of the Century... What if another deaf couple came 5 min later after you. There will be two deaf on waiting list. Ha Ha.
John - That is a very good alternative. True, what if another deaf couple comes in and they use the same "name" deaf. For sure the place will be confused/perplexed as to who is deaf and who is deaf!! Funny scenario that I would pay good money to see! Usually with me, when wife and I go..I just usually tell them Roland and put (deaf) next to my name. Like Roland (deaf). Works every time for me. Never miss me.
no, its bad idea... next time you come to the restaurant, wear the clown cap and tell the hostess to write down "the jerk with clown cap"... anyone agree? :)
This is very good idea.
In my case, we usually give color of my t-shirt along name on their list. It works pretty good for us.

Hey John,
Excellent idea!!! I will do that!!!
If the hostess knows sign, maybe we should sign "Me name Deaf" instead of real name.

Hello John,
For some years I wrote DEAF before name after I had problems at outpatient clinic some years ago. I was last person at lobby so I asked office ladies what was gonna on and not calling me. They said the nurses called for me several times and why i didnt read their lips. Huh! So I said No Way because I read some magazines or kept my head down. Then other time I decided to mark DEAF before name on any folders or anywhere at the places. I agreed with you,JOHN about putting or writing DEAF before your name. Smile!
I thought it was very far out, but after talking to my daughter about your vlog. We discussed our thoughts and we came with same opinion. We thought it is not the way we should do. Calling ourselves, 'Deaf' is very degrading. We should tell the waiteress to put our name and 'Deaf' next to it. We are not just Deaf people to them, we have our names. Do you all agree with me?
Try "john whitiest teeth" jk.
At places like Penn Station I write "Gray sweater" or any color I'm wearing and it works everytime.
Vans, not a bad idea! ha
Yeah, We did that sometimes but most of time we use first name with "(deaf)". I know how deaf feel frustrating for not being called. Thanks for sharing ! Ü
It is indeed it works for us. I did it sometimes. My family and I tended to sit or stand by the host/hostess (only if we are very crowded) that reminded them that some of us are deaf.

hello john,
I don't blame you because I did same like yours. When I write to tell cracker barrel restaurant's I put my name is Taylor. i noticed few people pass me and I walked to check the list. I told young lady that my name is last that she tried to call me. I told her that I did tell her that I am deaf. She say she forget. next two weeks, we went there same place again, I decide to sign my name Taylor(Deaf) that lady said ok and wait for about 20 min. We went outside to sit rocking chairs and talked with my husband. The lady looked for us and found us at outside and tell us to come for get table. I smiled at my husband as my husband how do the lady know me.I told him that I put deaf that why the lady saw deaf mean I am deaf. My husband said good idea and happy. it work!! deanna taylor
please type english speaking not spanish. This is american only one language ENGLISH...
WoW! Never thought of that... I will do that when I go to the resturant.
