For CI..you can always fix it..

Cued speech..you can have another hand?

Maybe a better idea to wear our seat belt?

LOL at signing without hands...that was funny.

That a interesting thought... yeah if ur missing fingers, ASL can still be signed without fingers, i agree...

John,

Anonymous has a point about how you don't need both hands to cue, since we can alternate between either hand.

If a person had no use of their fingers on both hands, I think most cuers could still understand what that person was saying. Why? Because they're lip-reading while reading the hand movements. For native cuers, I feel that they don't look at the hands so much as they read the lips.

Sure it might be harder to understand the differences between the hand shapes (for consonant phonemes), but the hand positions and movements (which represent vowel phonemes) still can convey quite a lot of information.

Given that they have context of the conversation, I think most cue readers would be able to communicate with this hypothetical person. I hope you see where I'm coming from.

Secondly I agree w/you 110%

No matter what happening loss their hands and impossible their own challenge communicate "After"..

Pity CI ppl might not able fix again due their policy insurance.. Depends company willing re-pay and fix ci again.. I doubt! "After the auto accident or other" Doesn't matter still counts. Cannot speak ASL... Sadly for ci ppl will not able speak their own languages user "ASL".

For ASL ppl will not worry as long they can still communicate at last longer!

my friend talked to me about CI situatiom before christmas. From what I understand was that her friend who had special implant inside behind her earbone ( i forgot what it was called)...not ci..it was before CI, was at her house for chatting one day. Then suddenly she started to spin as if she had seizures and everyone had to deal with her while waiting on ambulance and had no idea why she acted like that or what caused it until after surgery, she found out by seeing bones with implant in jar that doctor showed. New bones grew on implant and became tigher and tigher that caused seizures. Her friend's mom was upset, etc. So I am still wondering about CI...if new bones grows and covers implant that possibly causes health problems such as seizures or others.
SO ASL is the BEST!!!!!

YEAH IT IS TRUE IF HAPPEN ONE MISTAKE HOW TO FIGURE OUT FOR SIGN LANGAUGE OR SPEAK UP YEAH I SAW INDIA USE FEET TO DRAW AND PAINT AND TALK WITH FEET FINGER REALLY AWSOME MIRCLE WONDERFUL. AND LOTS OF PRATICE GET USE WITH SIGN LANGAUGE SAME AS FEET DRAW PICTURE PRATICE AND PRATICE AND ASL GOT SKIILS LATER ON. WITH OUT HANDS WHOA TOUGHEST TO COMMUCATION BUT PRATICE WITH SPEAK HAVE TO DO JOB SKILLS. ASL AND SPEAK IS SAME SKILLS IF LACK SOMETHING IN ACCIDENT AND ACCEPT IT.

hi again,

There was exciting moment at basketball game where my son played last night. I saw little girl 19 months old named Haley who happened to walk towards me so I tried to say hi to Haley and asked her mom how old she was then Mom realized that I was deaf. Mom wanted to show me something and she talked to Haley into signing to me then Haley showed me some signs and I was surprised how brave Mom showed me so I called my daughter to come and I asked Haley to show my daughter some signs which she did. She was so cute then I asked Mom if she was losing some hearing or something. She said that Haley has not started talk at all even though she could hear so she decided to buy sign language book and taught her. She said that Haley finally caught up with her mind now but had not talk yet. I did watch her if she did speak or not and she still had not spoken at all. I helped her some new signs such as cookie, Mom, Dad, milk, other baby words and she learned quickly!! Anyway there is school in my hometown that has children that could not speak at all so they learn by using sign language and parents have to learn them too so they could communicate with them. SO ASL IS important for many good reasons and still BEST!!!!
