JohnABC.. I never thought it will working on computer to TTY .. I think I am too behind the news!

Good things to use tty for hard of hearing who dont know how ASL instead not using VP. I keep warning all of Hosptial and Clinic to keep mind of their business.. Deaf patient have a right to use TTY or VP whatever instead of NO! to deaf patient or client which one you use tty or VRS, etc.

A.D.A can useful for hard of hearing who dont know how to ASL and Medical clinic must learn to accept any kind of what the deaf patient or hard of hearing to use it.

I prefers VP over TTY is because of save time and faster in a minute. Other reason is able to tell VRS to correct error words. :-) TTY sometimes garble words, couldn't push backspace key if call TRS.

Deaf Pixie,
In my area, local hospital has provide TTY for inpatients/outpatients, guests, and receptionist. It is useful for them to have them.

I still have my TTY for backup if I don't have VP or lights out.

Really? I don't know that it works on the computer to TTY!

We could do that because my Deaf husband still uses the TTY to talk with his Deaf mother. It'd save our money on the bill...if we use the computer when we call his Deaf mother. She doesn't want to try VP in her home and she likes to use her TTY. She's going to be 89 years old!

Hi JungleForest.

Some of medical clinic doesnt have a tty or other kind of .. I often discovered many time medical clinic refused allow me to use TTY relay service when I made a call for doctor appointment because one other deaf patient use VP. They hate TTY Relay Service. I told them I dont have VP that time.
Plus, I was kind of broke money and alot of issues. I should share with you in personal and it is very complications.
Stevens Hosptial is in Edmonds, WAtell medical clinic cannot barrier to anyone whom use TTY relay service or other.
They have no right to refuse to talk deaf patient with TTY relay Service.

But I have VP now.. I need more evidence. Stevens Hosptial start more abusive on Deaf patient. It is legally to not allow TTY Relay service. It is true.. Forgot about who is hearing loss and never learn ASL. the person who grew up in hearing world and now Hearing loss..

That's what I mean to discussed issues. Of course, TTY print out is more evidence than VP. Bad time for me to not able to copy for tape from VP. My VCR is broken. I am totally stuck same time.

Your story is exactly the same as my story! My father cherishes his TTY while I let mine pile up a big heap of dust! The only difference is he has caught up with the times, he uses the internet e-mail to communicate with me, too. But I notice that when I used the TTY, he would talk to me for hours. Not through the internet, he apparently does not have much use for the internet. Hackers, people listening in, too many phishing sites popping up etc, I guess. Ha! I NEVER use the TTY anymore, I miss the chats with Dad on TTY. He's getting old (70's) now, his wife (stepmom) died, and now he has a new girlfriend..

Let me give a warning..to those who use pagers under their bosses names. Some people have pagers under their boss's account. 911 calls will go to the billing address on the boss's account. Be sure not to wake your boss up with police banging on the door at 3 am in the morning!!

I do still have TTY for good reasons: 911 and social security office plus my husband's work has TTY since we do not have pagers and computers can go down unexpectly that require repairs but I rarely use TTY now but will not throw it away unless every where is 100 percent accepted with VP. SS office does not accept third party at all and must use TTY-period! because of confendiences (MISPElling) so it left me no other choices. So SS office is behind with VP, etc, I guess. I would not mind calling 911 on VP but I am still afraid what if VP takes forever to answer my emergency call. Maybe VP needs special feature (click button, something like that) for 911 so that way VP operators know and must answer call quickly.

Aww.. good ol' TTY!!!!!!

How so funny that you mentioned about your dad who keep TTY but not you. I'm in the same boat! Except this one is for my sister, she still have old TTY!

Actually, I haven't called her for years but she insists on keeping it just in case I ever call her even though I repeatedly told her that I will never use TTY! LOL

Thanks for the link so I might as well download it in case I ever need it. I don't have TTY anymore, I tossed it back in '97. I was never fan of TTY only because I can't stand "GA" !!!!

"Hi, How are you? GA" - " I am fine and you? GA"

Ewwww.. I have no patience saying GA over and over, he he. Good old days, though!!

I put my TTY away!!
IF need 911 - simple just pick up phone 911 and put it down, they can track you and come right over!! :-)

I keep my TTY so that my hearing mom can call me (she can't call the TTY in my computer). Also, I keep my TTY for my DeafBlind friends. It's the only way we can call each other. Otherwise, I use VP to call and receive calls from everyone else.

Our TTY is now rest in peace (RIP), why??? Four of us in family are DEAF. We foght who to answer the phone, too many "My turn", spilled drinks in it, food crumbs stuck inside the keyboard and the on/off switch worn out. TTY is still sitting in our office just for memories and remind us what our lives were like, smile

I would advise everyone to keep your TTY's because the Government Offices do not have vrs. Mine does collect dust but I used it 6 months ago to call the passport office. It still works!
